Who we are

The Linkslandic Health Service is the controller for the national health record to the extent the law assigns it (LHS Act 2026, section 9A). We have a Data Protection Officer, whose contact details are on our contact page (Data Protection Act 2026, section 6A(a)).

Why we use your data

We use personal data only where the law allows: for example to perform our public task, to meet a legal obligation, or to protect someone's vital interests (Data Protection Act 2026, section 3A). Health data is special-category data. We use it only where strictly necessary for health care, public health, safeguarding or another purpose the law allows, and we protect it with heightened security (Data Protection Act 2026, section 3B).

Your rights

  • To know how we use your data and to get a copy (Data Protection Act 2026, section 4A). For your health record the stronger rule applies: we reply within 14 business days under the Health Information and Patient Privacy Act 2026.
  • To have inaccurate data corrected (Data Protection Act 2026, section 4B(a)).
  • To have data deleted in some cases, although we must keep health records for set periods (Data Protection Act 2026, section 4B(b) and (c)).
  • To receive data you gave us in a format you can move, where that is technically possible (Data Protection Act 2026, section 4C(a)).
  • To object to some processing (Data Protection Act 2026, section 4C(b)).
  • To ask for a human to review a decision made solely by a computer that has a significant effect on you (Data Protection Act 2026, section 4C(c)).

Breaches

If a breach is likely to create a risk to people, we notify the Data Protection Commissioner, where practicable within 72 hours (Data Protection Act 2026, section 6B(b)). For health information we tell every affected patient without undue delay (Health Information and Patient Privacy Act 2026, section 4B(b)).

Complaints

You can complain to the Data Protection Commissioner without charge. You can also bring a civil claim for damage caused by a breach of the Act (Data Protection Act 2026, section 9A(a)).
